Description

Open pit mining often results in a large hole or pit being formed in the process of extracting a mineral.
Deposits mined by open pit techniques are generally divided into horizontal layers called benches.
The thickness of the benches depends on the type of deposit & the mineral being mined.
Mining is generally conducted on a number of levels at any one time.
