Description
The motor consists of a two pole armature mounted between the ends of two bar magnets. The armature has a two section commutator and a pair of slip-rings on its shaft and is so constructed that the wire cannot slip off the iron core. The upper bearing and brushes for the commutator are mounted on a strong upright. Separate brushes are provided for the commutator and for slip rings and each are connected to a terminal. Helmholtz coils
Description
Helmholtz Coils are a special arrangement of coils that are placed in such a way as to generate a very uniform magnetic field between them when a current is applied. The strength of the magnetic field is proportional to the number of turns in the coils and the current applied to them. The Helmholtz Coils setup consists of two field coils mounted on a track to provide a uniform magnetic field between the coils. The proper separation for Helmholtz coils is marked on the track. A pair of precision coils and 400 turns of wire are wound on heat resistant former of about 150 mm diameter.
Pin Fin Appatatus
The apparatus consists of a channel in which the pin fin is tested in both natural as well as forced convection. The channel is connected to the suction of blower. The blower is operated to touch the pin fin in forced convection only. In natural convection, the window above the pin fin is kept open to the atmosphere. Five thermocouple tapings are given along the length of the fin. Thus the temperature distribution along the length can be distinguished. Also natural and forced heat transfer co-efficient, effectiveness, etc. can be found out.

Motorised Gyroscope Apparatus
The apparatus consists of a rotor mounted in bearings. This rotor is free to rotate about
(i) Its own axis i.e. axis of spin.
(ii) Axis of precession.
(iii) Axis of gyroscopic couple.
The rotor is connected to the variable speed motor. The weight of the motor is balanced by another weight, which is on either side of the rotor. By putting weights on the weight platform torque can be supplied to rotor, which is also called gyroscopic couple.
