Two Hinged Arch Apparatus
DESCRIPTION:
The two hinged arch is a statically indeterminate structure of the first degree. The horizontal thrust is the redundant reaction and is obtained y the use of strain energy methods. Two hinged arch is made determinate by treating it as a simply supported curved beam and horizontal thrust as a redundant reaction.EXPERIMENT:
• To study experimentally a two hinged arch for the horizontal displacement of the roller end for a given system of loading and to compare the same with those obtained analytically. • To obtain the influence line ordinates for horizontal thrust experimentally in a two hinged arch by moving a load along the span and to compare the same with those obtained theoretically.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION:
• Apparatus has a span of 100cm and rise 25cm. • Both ends should have hinge but one of the ends should also be free to move longitudinally. • A lever arrangement fitted at this end for the application of known horizontal inward force for measuring the horizontal thrust. Along the horizontal span of the arch various points are marked at equidistant for the application of load. • This being a statically indeterminate structure of the first degree. • A dial gauge with 25mm travel (with magnetic base) is to be supplied with the apparatus. • Mild steel apparatus complete with a supporting stand and a set of weights.XTEMOS ELEMENT

Hydraulic Ram Test Setup
DESCRIPTION:
The Set-up is designed to study the Hydraulic Ram. Hydraulic RAM is used for pump little quantity of water to high head from a large quantity of water available at low head. It works on a principle of water hammer stating that “When flowing water is suddenly stopped in a long pipe a pressure wave travels along the pipe creating an effect of water hammer”. The Set-up consists of a pipe section fitted with a pulse valve and non-return valve, a supply reservoir on a stand which is connected to an overhead tank, an air vessel above the valve chamber smoothes cyclic fluctuations from the Ram delivery. Different pressure may be applied to the pulse valve to change the closing pressure and hence the operating characteristic. The flow rate of useful and waste water is measured using measuring tank and stop watch provided. Pressure and Vacuum Gauge are connected on delivery and suction side for the purpose of measurement.EXPERIMENT:

Natural Convection Apparatus
The unit consists of a vertical brass pipe heated by a cartridge heater inside it. The pipe looses heat to atmosphere by natural convection. It is fitted in an enclosure to provide undisturbed natural convection currents. Thermocouples are attached on the pipe to measure local temperatures. Heater input is measured on voltmeter and ammeter. Thus students can determine overall heat transfer coefficient and local transfer coefficients in natural convection at various heat transfer rates.
