Flow Over Weir Or Open Channel Apparatus:
A ‘WEIR’ is the name given to concrete or masonry structure built across a river (or stream) in order to raise the level of water on the upstream side and to allow the excess water to flow over its entire length to the downstream side. Weirs may also be used for measuring the rate of flow of water in river or streams.
Different shapes of “WEIRS” generally used are sharp-crested weir, broadcasted weir and ogee shaped weir.
In the unit a centrifugal pump sucks the water from the sump tank, and discharges it to a small flow channel. The weir is fitted at the end of channel. All the weirs are interchangeable. The water-flowing over the weir falls in the collector. Water coming at from the collector can be directed to the sump or can be directed in to the measuring tank for measurement of flow.

Linear Air Track
Angular section aluminium alloy track, length 255cms, with staggered air holes, supported on two light alloy castings positioned 45 cm from each end of the track.
One support has a two- point contact and other one-point contact for lateral and horizontal adjustments for which a knurled screw is provided.
Large catapult arms with slots for elastic bands are fitted to each end of the track.
A fully fitted to one end of the track enables experiments involving acceleration under a constant force.
Identical end caps enable air to be introduced from either end of the track, bung being supplied to close the end not being used.
The vehicle buffer attachments and clamping screws are matt black to help interpretation of stroboscopic photographs.

Description
Vernier reading to 30 seconds of arc. The 175 mm diameter scale is fixed. The table and telescope movements are completely independent of each other and read to 30 seconds of arc by means of double ended verniers and magnifiers. Both rotations have fine adjustment screws. Coarse adjustments can also be made by release of clamping screw. Collimator is mounted on a fixed pillar and is fitted with 175 mm fl. achromatic objective with 32 mm clear aperture and a laterally adjustable slit 6 mm long. Telescope is mounted on a movable pillar fitted with 175 mm fl. achromatic objective of 32 mm clear aperture and x 10 Ramsden eye-piece with a glass cross line graticule. Both the telescope and collimator have rack and pinion focusing and can be adjusted for leveling the axes of both units as well as for adjusting to the axis of rotation. Prism table is marked with lines to assist prism placement and has three table leveling screws. It also has an interchangeable clamping unit for the prism and diffraction grating. Complete with prism clamp, diffraction grating holder and a Tommy bar for adjusting optical axis, In case.
Circuit Breaker Demonstration
Description
Investigate the working principle of circuit breaker type fuse with this demonstration model. The apparatus is built on a robust plastic base and includes resistive loads to simulate external wiring circuits. Applications of the thermal response of bimetal strips and also electromagnetism (movement from a solenoid) are clearly demonstrated in this model. When a 12 V DC supply is connected (not supplied) the LED lights to show that current is flowing in the external circuit and the bi-metal strip can be seen to bend as its heater coil raises the temperature. After a few minutes the bending is sufficient to trip the mechanism and the current path is broken. At any current selection a short circuit situation can be initiated by pressing the red button and this produces an immediate response from the solenoid to disconnect the supply.

Kaplan Turbine Test Setup
DESCRIPTION:
Kaplan Turbine is an axial flow reaction Turbine named in honor of Dr. B. Kaplan, a Gennan Engineer. This turbine is suitable for low head. The power produced by a turbine is proportional to QH. As the head (H) decreases the J discharge (Q) must increase to produce the same power. The present Set-up consists of a scroll casing housing a runner. Water enters the turbine through the stationary guide vanes and passes through the runner axially. The runner has a hub and airfoil vanes, which are mounted on it. The water is fed to the turbine by means of Centrifugal Pump. The runner is directly mounted on one end of a central SS shaft and other end is connected to a brake arrangement. A transparent hollow cylinder made of acrylic is fitted in between the draught tube and the casing for observation of flow on to the airfoil vanes. This runner assembly is supported by thick cast iron pedestal. Load is applied to the turbine with the help of this brake arrangement so that the efficiency of the turbine can be calculated. The Set-up is supplied with control panel. A draught tube is fitted on the Outlet of the turbine. The Set-up is complete with guide mechanism. Pressure and Vacuum Gauge are fitted at the Inlet & Outlet of the turbine to measure the total supply head on the turbine.EXPERIMENT:
