Circuit Breaker Demonstration
Description
Investigate the working principle of circuit breaker type fuse with this demonstration model. The apparatus is built on a robust plastic base and includes resistive loads to simulate external wiring circuits. Applications of the thermal response of bimetal strips and also electromagnetism (movement from a solenoid) are clearly demonstrated in this model. When a 12 V DC supply is connected (not supplied) the LED lights to show that current is flowing in the external circuit and the bi-metal strip can be seen to bend as its heater coil raises the temperature. After a few minutes the bending is sufficient to trip the mechanism and the current path is broken. At any current selection a short circuit situation can be initiated by pressing the red button and this produces an immediate response from the solenoid to disconnect the supply.

Description
Air Core Solenoid helps investigate the magnetic field of a long coil. It can also used with the Current Balance as an accessory to measure the force on a conductor in a magnetic field. The solenoid has coils wound on a plastic tube with approximately 575 turns of copper wire. It can carry a current of 5 A continuously or 10 A intermittently.
Ultrasonic Transmitter And Receiver Set
This apparatus consists of a self-contained transmitter and receiver operating in the 40 kHz region. The transmitted wave is modulated at a user controlled variable frequency of about 2 kHz and this is detected by the receiver which amplifies the signal and drives a miniature integral loudspeaker. Both transmitter and receiver are contained in separate plastic enclosures measuring 175 x 100 x 40 mm which contain all the electronics and the 9 V batteries. The receiver has front panel 4mm sockets so that the output can be monitored on an oscilloscope for more quantitative measurements. The system is ideal for demonstrating sound waves above the hearing threshold and reflection properties associated with sonar etc. A special feature is the second transducer on the transmitter which can be switched on when required to produce two coherent sources. By moving the receiver along a line parallel to the two sources interference patterns can be dramatically demonstrated simplifying the Young’s slits experiment or enabling it to be demonstrated using waves other than light. Complete with batteries, full instructions and suggestions for use.

Forced Convection Apparatus
The unit consists of a circular pipe; loosing heat by forced convection to air, being forced through it. Constant heat flux is added to pipe by an electrical heater, provided with input control. The pipe surface temperature is measured at various points along length of pipe. Temperature of air at inlet and outlet of test section are measured. Thus the students can calculate local and overall heat transfer coefficients in forced convection, at various airflow rates and various heat flux values.

Consisting of a metal rod, 500mm in length and 4.5mm diameter, enclosed in a well lagged, nickle plated brass tube with three tubules for steam, inlet, outlet and thermometer.
The metal rod to be studied is supported in the steam jacket by detachable conical cups situated at each end of the tube.
The apparatus is carried on a heavy gauge channel base at one end of which is an adjusting screw.

The perimeter is an instrument for accurate charting of the field of vision. It consists of. A vertical stand on which a metallic arc is pivoted. It also bear a circular black disc to read the meridian in which the arc in shape of a semicircle with radius 330 mm. Its rotating in any direction and fix at any position with a tightening screw. The arc is graduated from 0 to 90 with a movable test object which is a white color spot of size 10mm diameter painted on a circular disc it can be moved with arc. An adjustable chin rest and a detachable leveling bar is fixed in front of the metallic arc. A scale and circular chart frame to hold the chart paper in position is provided at the back of the circular disc. A metallic graduated scale with a movable pin-punch pointer is fixed to mark on the perimeter chart paper.
